Dwayne Wyles

My name is Dwayne ‘Dubbzone’ Wyles and I am a Warragamy/Girramay man whose descendants live in Murray Upper (Jumboon), Ingham, Herbert River Valley and surrounding areas. I was born in Mackay, but raised in Townsville QLD, Australia and I’m a Hip Hop artist.

The Girringun Nation’s traditional song and dance in addition to 90’s Hip Hop have shaped me and had a significant impact on my identity as a creative artist. My songs and stories are a testimony of my dedication to my people, land and culture. I use music to express emotions, tell stories, raise awareness, build self-esteem and inspire people.

In the past I’ve seen family, friends and young people consumed by destructive lifestyles, and usually paying the ultimate price. This has strongly motivated me to initiate projects such as this. I believe that utilising creativity to verbally and visually illustrate someone’s story and experiences is a therapy in itself. My goals in life are to be more actively involved in the creative and cultural development of my community.

My artworks consist of original lyrics in a mixtape track, a music video and cover art.
