Jessica Braiding

My name is Jessica Braiding, I grew up in Townsville and attend the Wesleyan Methodist Church. Growing up in this environment has a continual influence on my creative pursuits. When I began my New Media Arts degree, I enrolled as a Photomedia major but have since changed to Media Design. However, my passion for photography is still very strong and I don’t like to limit myself to just one creative practice. I love incorporating both design and photography into the one artwork.

My design style can vary depending what the client wants, although there are a few consistent factors. I love layering elements and using either bold or pastel colours, depending what I am designing. I find interest with the use of different typefaces and have a passion for using scripted handwritten fonts for titles and the source san pro for the body of content.

When it comes to photography, I love taking vibrant and high contrast shots. My favourite locations to shoot in are Townsville’s beautiful garden and forest settings, as well as the beach. I have a particular interest for taking portraits, couple and family photos. Through my photography, I have found a passion for incorporating a story line within the different frames so that the viewer can think more in depth about them.

Upon graduating, I would like to branch out into the magazine industry through the use of photography, design, or both. I’m also interested in beginning my own freelance photography and design business. Either career path would be a dream to work in.
