Oliver Gubser
My name is Oliver Gubser and as an emerging artist I am motivated to continually develop and produce works through different mediums based on awareness, self reflection and functionality. My family heritage stems from two areas of the globe: my father is of Swiss nationality and mother of Indonesian. Born and raised in a multi-cultural household has aided in a wider perspective on the arts which later influenced me to study in Europe through James Cook University.
From studying in Germany and Australia, I have been involved in photography, communication design, print media and interactive app development. An area that interests me most is the apparel industry where I hope to create a coastal surf brand focused on ethical and sustainable principles. Tied closely with starting a surf brand, I hope to step into surf and lifestyle photography for magazine publications such as Monster Children and Stab Magazine.
Artworks to be showcased in Momentum Exhibition are of two mediums. First, a photographic series titled “these threads” symbolic of garment factory workers and consumer behaviour towards ethically produced clothing. Second, a series of digital manipulations titled “Sentience” presented through an interactive projection.
